Abstract

The quality of higher education can be seen in its closeness to internal and external customers. Because of that, various activities in organizing higher education institutions must be oriented towards customer satisfaction. Another form is the strengthening of social responsibility. Based on this premise, this article aims to provide an overview of: 1) the social orientation of the vision of Islamic higher education; 2) Islamic higher education policies that demonstrate social responsibility; 3) the actions of Islamic universities in responding to requests for social responsibility. Through qualitative-descriptive research at IAIN Kendari, the following findings were obtained: First, transdisciplinarity in the vision of IAIN Kendari shows a very strong social orientation, not only answering customer needs in the short term but touching broader and long-term needs. Second, the policies produced are still academic responsibility towards students as internal customers, not yet touching the needs of the wider community as external customers. Third, IAIN Kendari is quite responsive in fulfilling requests for social responsibility to internal customers. Meanwhile, requests for social responsibility from external customers are responded to in a reactive manner.
