Abstract

ABSTRACT Nani. SID. 18010106051. EFL Pre-service Teachers’ Challenges in Designing Tasks during Field Teaching Practice. Supervised by: Dr. Sitti Nurfaidah, S.Pd., M.Ed. and Dewi Atikah, M.A.TESOL This narrative study examines the challenges encountered by EFL preservice teachers in designing tasks during their field teaching practice. The researcher collected the reflection data from six EFL pre-service teachers in the English education department at one of the Islamic higher institutions in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The participants conducted teaching practices in their fifth semester. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the EFL pre-service teachers encountered several challenges in designing tasks during field teaching practice, such as choosing materials, using learning media, selecting types of tasks, and adapting tasks designed to students’ abilit ies. This study indicates that EFL pre-service teachers should conduct a needs analysis before designing students’ tasks.
