Abstract

ABSTRACT Sri Windri SID 17010106014. EFL Students’ Awareness of Teaching Beliefs Shift after Field Teaching Practice. Supervised by: Dr. Sitti Nurfaidah, S.Pd., M.Ed. This research aims to investigate EFL students' awareness of their teaching beliefs shift during teaching in the real class on field teaching practice. The study used a qualitative design. The participants of this study consist of 20 EFL students from the English Education Department at one of the institutions in Southeast Sulawesi who were selected based on their participation in the field teaching practice program. This study used EFL students’ reflective journals to gather the data. The findings indicated EFL students’ awareness of significant differences between EFL students’ teaching beliefs before field teaching practice and EFL students’ teaching beliefs after field teaching practices. Before following field teaching practice, most EFL students figured that teacher is a source of knowledge which caused a feeling of anxiety in facing the students, not confident with their knowledge, vocabulary, and English speaking fluency, then they are worried to present the material. Meanwhile, it reveals the awareness of the progress after teaching during field teaching practice, especially to EFL students' beliefs on teaching attitudes, strategies, media, and performance. Therefore, this study implies that the shift in teacher beliefs affects teachers' teaching practice including teaching attitudes, strategies, and performance.
