Abstract

ABSTRACT Muhammad Harits Kautsar SID. 17010106062. A Case Study of EFL Students’ Self-Directed Learning in Completing Virtual Service Program Throughout Covid-19 Outbreak. Supervised by: Abdul Halim, M. TESOL. and Sarjaniah Zur S.Pd.I., M. Pd. This study investigates EFL students' self-directed learning in completing virtual service programs throughout the Covid-19 outbreak. These two participants are English students who have conducted the virtual service program. This virtual service program was carried out during the pandemic in 2020, which was the first program of a Higher University. This study employed qualitative methods and used a case study approach to investigate students' preferences regarding Self-directed learning. Moreover, the study uses reflection to see how students experience selfdirected learning when creating online educational content (community service program). In analyzing the data, the researcher collects data, prepares data for analysis, codes the data, and describes it to be used in the research paper. Further, the following reveals how the data analysis process is obtained through students' reflections. To analyze the data, the researcher used thematic analysis. This research found that in virtual community service, students learn by making digital content, strategies for making digital content, and motivation in making digital content. Second, the students' self-directed learning process in completing the Virtual service program with five sub-themes, namely the planning process, preparing process, designing process, monitoring process, and evaluating process. The third theme is technical challenge positively, including Participants can complete the Virtual service program to completion by fulfilling predetermined conditions. And negatively including and negatively including, the network is sometimes also slow in uploading videos. Keywords: EFL Students’; Self-Directed Learning; Virtual Service Program; Covid-19
