Abstract

ABSTRACT Wa Ode Jumiati. SID. 16010106043. Using Information Gap Activities in Developing Students’Willingness to Communicate. Supervised by: Isna Humaera S.Ag, S.Pd, M.Pd. This study was aimed at developing students' willingness to communicate with XI MIPA 1 students at Kendari through the use of information-gap activities during the teaching and learning process. The research was conducted in three meetings.The participants of this study consist of 31 students from the students of class MIPA1. The instruments used in this study were the observation sheet and students’ reflection. The data werecollected in form qualitatively. The qualitative data were analyzed throughcoding, data reduction, data display, and conclusion. This research also used method triangulation. The findings of the data analyses show that (1) The implementation ofclassroom English during the information gap activities can develop the students’ willingness to communicate, especially students' behavioral intention to communicate; (2) The implementation of information gap activities also increased the students’ motivation and confidence to communicate in English; (3) The implementation of information gap activitiesin the forms of pair and group work activities can make the students more active in practicing during learning activities; (4) the use information gap activities in English teaching increase the student's vocabulary and they can learn pronunciation well. In addition, the information gap activities can as a teaching strategy in English teaching that can help the teacher to manage the class well and can students’ attention in the learning process.
